texas is for lovers

The angry white clouds roll over a tired Texas landscape
As a young Yankee falls hard for the girl of his dreams
And as the tension builds from the seat beside her
She sees a tear fall slowly from his eye
Quietly he whispers “I love you”
As the tears start to form in her eyes she says “I love you too”
He softly places a kiss on her cheek
And as brown meets blue
Time seems to break from its unmovable pattern

How do you walk away from the only thing in your life that seems to make sense
How do you forsake the only person that knows everything about you
The only one that seems to understand
These questions flood his mind
Swirling behind his eyes
causing him to break

Through out their lives
three and a half days have never meant more to them
Walls destroyed love given and received
Perfection found
Perfection lost
But three days was all that life could afford them
And as he stares into those southern raised eyes
his hand is pulled father and farther from hers
He forces out a goodbye
As he turns his back on his heart and walks away

Now that Yankee sits on a plane
Back to his home town
1500 miles away from the one he loves
And as he glides above those angry white clouds
He fights those same tears that he left deep in the heart of Texas
The tears that he once let flow are held at bay by his gritting teeth
They become Hostages of his lids
Forced to stay in the place of their origin
A mocking remembrance of the life he lives

And as the blue surrounds him
His voice shakes as he whispers to himself “ I love you”
His mind wont let him rest
As he thinks of the one he left behind
Her eyes wont let him breath
The smell of her perfume still lingering in his clothing
Haunts him like a ghost bent on destroying any normality he holds within his bones

He wonders where his girl is now
He wonders how she is
And if she could possibly miss him as much as he misses her
Philadelphia is calling
